At the swimming pool, water always smells of chlorine. The fumes rising from the water are sometimes so strong it hurts the eyes and makes the swimmer smell like bleach. There is a reason for using it: chlorine kills any microorganisms that have entered the water, protecting the many people that swim there. Chlorine is used to kill germs and parasites.
The water board also uses it to cleanse water of microorganisms, before it is sent out to our homes, arriving through our taps, in our kitchen for drinking, dishwashing and cooking, and in our bathrooms for bathing and brushing teeth. Often this smell can be detected, sometimes not, but it can always be tasted.
